New School Year, New Lighting
Genlyte Solutions has been instrumental in helping 120+ educational institutions prepare for the 2026-2027 school year with new lighting.
Back to school season has already begun — and for many institutions, lighting installations as well as upgrades are part of that fresh start.
The educational market is one of several sectors – besides data centers, healthcare, infrastructure, and government/municipal – cited as having growth potential for lighting professionals, according to the most recent Pulse of Lighting survey.
In just the second quarter of 2026 alone, New Jersey-based Genlyte Solutions, a Signify business, has completed more than 120 school projects ranging from K-12 facilities to campuses for higher education. Installations include the construction of new schools, indoor and outdoor renovations, plus campus expansions.
By tapping the breadth of products available from its Lightolier, Day-Brite, and Gardco brands, Genlyte Solutions was able to provide lighting and controls systems for a wide variety of applications such as classrooms, administrative offices, libraries, gymnasiums and athletic facilities, residence halls, and parking areas.
The primary goals for each of the projects were to enhance student and staff comfort and well-being, foster a sense of security, and drive operational efficiency.
Among the Q2 highlights are:
• Illinois Park Elementary School’s addition, Elgin, Illinois, in partnership with Chicago Lightworks and Steiner Electric Company
• Hillside Middle School renovation, Manchester, New Hampshire, in partnership with Apex Lighting Solutions and Independent Electric Supply
• New Creekside High School, Hutto, Texas in partnership with SESCO Lighting and CED
“Supporting more than 120 education projects in Q2 demonstrates the trust schools and universities as well as our partner ecosystem place in Genlyte,” said Christy Tilton, President, Genlyte Solutions. “As the back-to-school season gets underway, customers can continue to rely on our team and brands to support their needs, whether it be creating a welcoming learning environment, enhancing student and educator comfort and well-being, fostering campus safety and security, or improving operational efficiency.”
One recent project was a school located in Taunton, Massachusetts.
“School districts and higher education institutions are investing to create modern, flexible learning environments that support student success and long-term performance,” said Clint MacKeen, principal, Apex Lighting Solutions, a lighting agency covering New England. “Working alongside Genlyte Solutions, we’re able to bring customers a broad portfolio of trusted lighting and controls brands and the application expertise needed to meet their requirements.”
He added, “Another project highlight is the new Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School in Taunton, Massachusetts, opening this month. The breadth of Genlyte’s offering enabled multiple brands, including Ledalite, Day-Brite, Lightolier and Gardco, to be utilized. Just as important was the strong collaboration between the architect, engineer, contractor, Apex and Genlyte, which helped bring the design vision to life.”
