RYSE Expands Reach in the Growing Smart Home Channel

Smart home company RYSE was able to sign two distribution deals at CEDIA and introduced a professional product line to complement its core DIY retrofit offering.

Smart controls that operate motorized window coverings is a category that has been gaining attention over the past several years, with companies such as Lutron and Crestron leading the charge with proprietary systems that integrate with their other smart home and lighting products.

Now RYSE – a Toronto-based smart home company that specializes in motorizing existing window coverings as a retrofit product for the consumer DIY market – is courting trade customers with the debut of its MOTORYSE brand for trade professionals, which was introduced at CEDIA last month.

Since its founding in 2015, RYSE has specialized in retrofit window covering automation, generating more than $20 million in lifetime revenue, holding 10 issued patents, and selling its products at retail in more than 100 Best Buy stores.

Following the debut of the MOTORYSE product, the company has announced the launch of its latest investment round at USD $2.60 per share through its Regulation A offering qualified by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The offering includes up to 15,751,655 shares, for a maximum raise of approximately $40.95 million.

The new round will reportedly support RYSE’s expansion into the professional channel, where smart home integrators, dealers, and installers are exploring retrofit solutions.

“Coming out of CEDIA with two major distributors signed, we’re seeing firsthand how much demand there is for retrofit automation in the professional trade channel,” said Trung Pham, founder and CEO of RYSE. “This funding round gives us the fuel to rapidly scale in this market and equip integrators and fabricators with the retrofit solutions they’re after.”

RYSE’s flagship products – SmartShade and SmartCurtain – are robotic devices that allow users to motorize and automate their existing window shades and curtains. SmartShade connects onto any shade with a beaded chain, such as roller shades and vertical blinds while SmartCurtain fits on a curtain rod or track. The devices can be controlled via mobile app, remote control, or voice-controlled AI assistant and can be set to open and close on a schedule. The motors can also be integrated into a larger smart home ecosystem with IFTTT, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit.

The new MOTORYSE product line was built exclusively for smart home integrators, window covering dealers, installers and distributors. It runs on RYSE’s technology and adds dedicated trade support, dealer programs, professional integrations with Control4 and Josh.ai, and distribution infrastructure. MOTORYSE was founded to give integrators, dealers, and fabricators a way to deliver motorized shades, blinds, and curtains without replacing a client’s existing window coverings. According to the company, retrofit solutions unlock a new product category and revenue stream for dealers and integrators.

The two U.S. distribution deals that were signed at CEDIA include DSG Distributors, which  will carry MOTORYSE across New York, serving professional AV and smart home integrators in one of the largest residential technology markets in the country, and Mountain West Distributors (MWD), which will carry MOTORYSE across its locations in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon and Washington. MWD is a founding member of the PowerHouse Alliance, a national network of professional technology distributors with more than 70 distribution locations and coverage across all major U.S. markets.

“At DSG Distributors, we look for solutions that help our dealers win more business and deliver real value to their customers. That’s what makes MOTORYSE compelling to us,” said Dave Silkin, President and CEO of DSG Distributors. “The ability to automate compatible shades, blinds and curtains customers already own opens up opportunities in both residential and commercial projects. It gives dealers a reason to reconnect with existing clients and offer an upgrade without asking them to replace window treatments they already like.”

Noted Garrett Breinholt, Sales Manager at Mountain West Distributors, “We are excited to partner with MOTORYSE. They offer a unique product that fills a hole for our dealers and helps round out our shades category.”
