Perlage Nightclub Inspired by Champagne Bubbles

a view of the interior of Perlage nightclub

Posh Al Maryah Island – Abu Dhabi’s newest financial center and hub for luxury retail and upscale dining – has a new nighttime hot spot: Perlage. According to the venue’s website, the name is a play on the French word for “pearls” (perles) to evoke the pearl-like appearance of champagne bubbles.

Studio Lumen – an architectural lighting design firm based in Dubai – was tasked with illuminating the venue in collaboration with Australian interior design firm Verhaal. The goal was to create “a seductive and immersive experience” that would reflect the atmosphere of this elegant venue.

Studio Lumen integrated the lighting to blend seamlessly with Perlage’s sophisticated décor. Guests are greeted at the entrance by a warm, subtle glow that highlights mirrored walls and intricate murals. The lighting then flows into the main space, where plush velvet banquette seating is illuminated with a soft, intimate light level that recalls vintage glamour and gently contrasts with the bar’s deep red accents.

A mirror ball installation serves as the centerpiece of Perlage’s lighting scheme, scattering scores of tiny reflections across the room. The reflections symbolize champagne bubbles and infuse the space with playful energy. Studio Lumen’s careful balance of light and shadow enhances the overall design, capturing the essence of champagne bubbles while retaining an uber-chic ambience.

Siddharth Mathur, Partner at Studio Lumen noted, “The lighting at Perlage is more than functional —it’s a storytelling element that brings depth and character to each corner of the space. We wanted to create an experience that feels both intimate and alive, where lighting interacts playfully with architectural details and decorative elements to create a visually memorable journey.”

The lighting design also integrates high-quality, energy-efficient LED technology, aligning with Studio Lumen’s commitment to sustainability without compromising luxury. This innovative approach reduces Perlage’s energy footprint while providing premium, long-lasting illumination — a combination that enhances the bar’s upscale aesthetic while supporting environmental responsibility.

Each area of Perlage is thoughtfully designed to offer an inviting and photogenic environment for guests with considerations such as the thoughtful positioning of the lighting fixtures that avoids unnecessary glare and enhances the reflective surfaces in the space to ensure a comfortable and flattering ambience for years to come.
