Paul M. Marantz to be Honored by Namesake Lighting Design Scholarship

Paul Marantz 800

Renowned New York City-based architectural lighting design firm Fisher Marantz Stone (FMS) has joined the late Paul Marantz’s family and friends in initiating a lighting design scholarship to honor the FMS founder, who died in June 2025 at age 87.

In December, the Board of Directors of The Nuckolls Fund unanimously approved the proposal to host and administer this scholarship, which will be awarded annually by The Nuckolls Fund as of this year. A lump sum of $10,000, payable to one student, is intended to be a meaningful contribution towards the cost of his or her education.

In order to be eligible for The Paul. M. Marantz Lighting Design Scholarship, students must be in their final year (4th year of a 4-year program or 5th year of a 5-year program) of an undergraduate architectural lighting program. Applicants must be proposed by the primary faculty contact at their university’s lighting program and hold at least a 3.5 GPA (or institutional equivalent).

“We celebrate Paul Marantz’s life and his contributions to our built environment with the creation of The Paul M. Marantz Lighting Design Scholarship to support a student who has the same firm and joyful commitment to the Art, Science, and Craft of lighting design as Paul…,” said Charles G. Stone II, an FMS co-founder.

“Throughout a 65-year-long career, Paul was a thoughtful, curious, and endlessly creative designer of light and luminaires, constantly experimenting with light and shadow. His mastery of the power of light in art and architecture inspired generations of colleagues and clients and is reflected in his work on thousands of projects, experienced by millions of people around the world,” Stone added.

Initial fundraising has been pledged by Marantz’s family, friends, and colleagues, and fundraising will continue throughout 2026.

The Fund will identify qualified programs; their primary faculty contacts will propose candidates for the Scholarship award. The Nuckolls Fund and one advisor from Fisher Marantz Stone will select the recipient. If your lighting program (certificate or diploma) would like to be considered, please contact Jeanne Clemente at the Nuckolls Fund.
