The role of Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania has evolved over the years since its heyday of manufacturing steel and iron during the Industrial Revolution. One thing that hasn’t changed is the area’s desirability as a logistics hub serving much of the Northeast corridor, with coverage typically running from Boston to Washington D.C. Instead of the mills and factories of the past, the region is now rife with warehouses and distribution centers with the goal of speeding products into customers’ hands.

One of the latest additions to the neighborhood is ABB, which announced last week that it will open a 350,000-sq.-ft. distribution center for its Installation Products division (formerly known as Thomas & Betts) that will supply a wide range of electrical products to thousands of contractors, distributors, and industrial customers throughout the Northeast.

Matthias Heilmann, President of ABB’s Installation Products, said, “The United States is ABB’s largest single growth market, and the company has invested over $14 billion in the U.S. since 2010. Regionalizing our global supply chain in the Lehigh Valley community reduces our carbon footprint by bringing us closer to our customers to continue to meet their needs for safe, smart and sustainable electrification solutions. This investment adds to over $100 million in installation product expansions and improvements we’ve made in the U.S. over the past few years to drive capacity and innovation.”

Ralph Donati, General Manager/U.S. and Latin America for ABB Installation Products, added, “Our commitment is to provide our customers with products and solutions when and where they’re needed for critical construction, utility, industrial and infrastructure projects. A range of employment opportunities will be posted on ABB’s career page for interested candidates to apply online.”

ABB’s Lehigh Valley distribution center should open by January 2023 and will add 100 local jobs to the community. Stocking more than 5,000 electrical products, the center is expected to cut delivery times by half to the Northeast. ABB already has distribution facilities in Arizona and Mississippi.
