Q4 Pulse of Lighting Survey Now Open – Respond by Dec 19

Pulse of Lighting

By: David Gordon

As the quarter and year comes to a close, it reminds me that it’s time for the Q4 Pulse of Lighting survey.

The Q3 survey revealed, essentially, a flat market, based upon input from over 200 industry lighting professionals. Further, they projected a comparable Q4. Did it deliver, exceed, or underperform?

The question is, “what was Q4 for you?”

And what are you projecting for 2025?

The overall commercial construction market, excluding the data center market, was very “challenged” and there are indications that it was flat, if not down. Further many had projects that were stymied / delayed due to switchgear issues, some projects were delayed due to labor, and interest rates delayed construction starts. Additionally, the residential market is slow due to interest rates.

All of this has combined to slow, and perhaps retract, for most companies. The result, unfortunately, has seen a number of lighting manufacturers reduce / change personnel.

But, on the bright side, while the market isn’t growing, individual companies can grow by taking share. There are some companies that are mastering the art of being easy to business, building brand, developing innovative products, and offering a value proposition. There are lighting agents that are creating demand and “out-selling” their competitors … and their competitors’ manufacturers. Manufacturer reps with lighting lines have sharpened their skills at calling on contractors and perfecting their project value-engineering skills.

2025 promises to be a “knife fight.” The market won’t “giveth” so manufacturers, reps / agents, and distributors will need to take share … unless they are satisfied with servicing demand.

The Q4 2024 Pulse of Lighting survey is now open. If you have 1-3 minutes over the next week, we would appreciate you sharing your Q4 performance and 2025 outlook.

All input is confidential. Respondents have the opportunity to request a free copy of the report later this month.

We need your input by Thursday, December 19th.
