U.S. Patent Office Issues Decision on Feit’s White Filament LED Patent Claims
The U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board has just issued its decision, which agrees with LEDVANCE on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent No. 8,604,678.
Massachusetts-based general lighting solutions provider LEDVANCE announced that a three-judge panel of the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) has issued a Final Written Decision finding all challenged claims in Feit Electric’s white filament LED patent, U.S. Patent No. 8,604,678 (the ‘678 patent), unpatentable.
In a 110-page opinion, the PTAB determined that every challenged claim was not patentable on multiple grounds and denied the patent owner’s contingent request to amend the claims. The PTAB also issued a separate 25-page opinion denying Feit Electric’s motion to terminate the proceedings.
In 2024, Feit Electric initiated proceedings against LEDVANCE in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky, alleging infringement of the ‘678 patent. In response, LEDVANCE challenged the validity of the asserted claims by filing a petition for Inter Partes Review with the PTAB. The PTAB has now agreed with LEDVANCE on all challenged claims of the ‘678 patent.
