Lighting Plays Strategic Part in Casino Rebranding

Case Study Casino 1

When Full House Resorts reimagined Bronco Billy’s as the Chamonix Hotel & Casino in Cripple Creek, Colorado, their vision was bold: Create a destination where the thrill of gaming meets the serenity and elegance of a luxury alpine hotel. Lighting would be the thread that ties it all together — setting the mood, guiding guests, and elevating every moment from the grand lobby to the quietest guestroom corridor.

From the outset, the design team, led by  Charter Sills & Associates, understood that lighting would act as an essential, but understated, influence in every guest’s story. The challenge was to craft an environment that could shift seamlessly from the vibrant energy of the gaming floor to the serene luxury of alpine-inspired guestrooms and spa retreats. Each space required its own unique atmosphere, yet all needed to feel connected and woven together by a single, cohesive brand identity.

Case Study Casino 2

Acuity Brands’ Aculux® was selected for its ability to provide lighting that not only performs functionally, but also elevates aesthetics, enhances comfort, and supports intuitive wayfinding. Glare control was paramount — especially in the casino, where lighting must energize and excite without being a distraction. Through meticulous mockups and careful selection of trims and optics, the team selected a white cone reflector to blend into the ceiling and narrow distributions. In select areas, wall wash fixtures were used to create a clean ceiling plane and add visual “punch” to vertical surfaces, seamlessly integrating with the interior design vision.

Case Study Casino 3

Chamonix’s ceiling constraints posed one of the biggest challenges. Decorative finishes and architectural details left limited space for recessed fixtures. The compact form factor and exceptional performance of Aculux AX2, AX3, and Initia™ fixtures provided the high-output and flexibility they needed to allow the design team to overcome architectural limitations. Aculux’s Initia 3″ downlight was incorporated throughout the project, creating exceptionally quiet ceilings with its 45-degree visual cutoff.

But the story of Chamonix is not just about technical achievement — it’s about the feeling that light creates. With Aculux, every transition – from the buzz of the casino to the calm of a guestroom – is intentional and effortless. The lighting is not an afterthought; it’s a signature of the experience, quietly shaping mood, guiding movement, and feeling as carefully curated as the furnishings and finishes.

Case Study Casino 4

In a 24/7 hospitality and gaming setting, Aculux fixtures deliver not only visual refinement but also operational dependability, helping to ensure that the experience remains elevated, day and night.
