LCA Updates Commissioning Course
The Lighting Controls Academy has updated one of its most popular Education Express courses.
The Lighting Controls Academy (LCA) has announced that its popular Education Express course, EE110: Commissioning and Lighting Controls, has been updated and is now available at NEMA Academy.
Authored by Craig DiLouie, LC, CLCP and given a thorough update by C. Webster Marsh, CLCP, this course identifies aspects of commissioning related to lighting control implementation, from documenting the controls intent to functional testing of specific systems, training, and post-occupancy evaluation.
The course is presented over 29 modules and addresses the challenges that can happen that lead to performance problems caused by any of the following:
• Owner expectations may be unclear or poorly documented.
• Design documents may not clearly communicate design intent.
• Incorrect equipment is supplied or substituted during construction.
• Systems may be installed or programmed incorrectly.
• Building personnel may not understand how systems should function.
Project commissioning – a systematic process used throughout a project to verify and document that building systems perform according to the owner’s project requirements and design intent – addresses these challenges.
For lighting and lighting controls, commissioning ensures that the installed system:
• Operates according to the intended control sequences
• Represents the intent of the construction documents
• Integrates seamlessly with other building systems
• Provides the expected lighting performance and energy savings
• May also verify compliance with applicable energy codes and standards
Commissioning begins during the pre-design phase and may continue following a period of building occupancy to confirm that the system performs as intended.
By the end of taking this course, participants will be able to:
• Understand the roles and responsibilities of the commissioning team
• Describe the key documents used during commissioning
• Identify commissioning activities during each project phase
• Comply with mandatory commissioning, verification, and functional testing requirements in commercial building energy codes
