One decade ago, “Carolyn” relocated her family of three young children to Richmond, Va., to care for her aging parents. There wasn’t much time for home improvement tasks. Over time, her home became increasingly in need of critical repairs — the rotting front and back porches created a potential hazard, and her locks and doorknobs were no longer secure.

In response, Ferguson associates volunteered alongside its newest national partner, Rebuilding Together, as part of Ferguson’s Associates in Action month. In one morning, volunteers provided essential home repairs for Carolyn, including: replacing the dry-rotted exterior railings, porch steps, and handrails; securing the siding on the house; pruning overgrown shrubbery; and installing the new doorknobs and locks. The repairs helped increase the health and safety of Carolyn’s home, preserving it so it can be passed down to the next generation of her family. Furthermore, it gave Carolyn the stability to age in place for years to come.

With support from Ferguson and its associates, neighbors in communities nationwide will receive essential home repairs as part of the company’s commitment and $150,000 donation to Rebuilding Together, a leading national nonprofit organization dedicated to repairing the homes of people in need.

“The Ferguson partnership with Rebuilding Together builds on our company’s core success: establishing strong relationships with the people we serve. Ferguson has a long history of actively encouraging our associates to feel more connected to their work by engaging in community service,” said Denise Vaughn, Director/Sustainability & ESG. “Our partnership focuses on providing access to shelter and affordable housing, which is vitally important in the current economic climate. Ferguson and Rebuilding Together are committed to helping all Americans have access to quality housing, and this partnership is an important step in achieving that goal.”

“In a year of unprecedented hardship with inequalities amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, Rebuilding Together’s mission to repair homes and revitalize communities is more critical than ever before,” added Caroline Blakely, President & CEO of Rebuilding Together. “We are incredibly thankful for Ferguson’s partnership and their commitment to meeting the housing challenges of our neighbors in need.”

Ferguson’s partnership with Rebuilding Together is part of its Ferguson Cares mission to ensure everyone has a decent place to live. The company also serves as the official plumbing supplier of Homes for Our Troops, partners with several affiliates of Habitat for Humanity, and supports local organizations working to break the cycle of homelessness and expand access to affordable housing.
