Slater Lighting & ELA Separate
Nearly four years since Slater Lighting partnered with ELA, the two companies have amicably agreed to dissolve their official partnership.
In late September of 2022, Brian Slater, principal of Florida-based Slater Lighting, announced that his agency had partnered with New York-based Electric Lighting Agencies (ELA) to cover the South Florida market under the brand ELA Powered by Slater Lighting.
Founded in 1955, ELA is the oldest and largest lighting agency in the New York metropolitan area and is focused primarily on the commercial market.
Slater began his lighting career on the residential side of the business, with Quoizel as one the major factories represented, among others. Over the past 15 years, Slater expanded his agency’s scope to include commercial as well as resort and hospitality projects in Florida.
As of September 4, 2026, the Slater Lighting brand has returned to south Florida as an independent rep agency once more.
In a post on LinkedIn, principal Brian Slater announced “the beginning of an exciting new chapter. …My ELA partners, Brian [Labbe] and John [Weintraub], and I decided that based upon the diverse market needs between New York City and Florida, it makes the most sense to dissolve our formal partnership and just work on key cross-market jobs on an as needed basis. This allows both companies to laser focus on the things they do best in each unique market. We are all coming out of this thankful for the successes, lessons, and progress that we built during this time. I am forever grateful for their leadership and friendship.”
He added, “Looking ahead, I’m energized by what’s next. This next chapter gives Slater Lighting the opportunity to double down on the areas where we find success and serve our factories and customers at the highest level.”
Slater went on to clarify that the company’s line card is “98% unchanged” and that the Slater team will remain the same with a few additions: Dustin Donnelly, based out of Orlando, now covers the North Florida area; and Sultana Fernandez has joined the team as its new Senior Quotes Specialist. Slater Lighting’s core territory remains South Florida, but will now carry a few brands in North Florida (excluding the panhandle).
Projects and orders that have already been placed will not be affected. “Our technology suite with Microsoft and Oasis quoting will be exactly the same, just a different name,” Slater said.
The phone numbers for Slater Lighting remain the same, and the team’s ELA emails will be forwarded to Slater Lighting’s new slaterlighting.com email addresses. Specific contact information can be found on slaterlighting.com.
