New York-based lighting agency SDA Lighting and Controls has completed the transition to a 100% Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), making every eligible employee an owner in the company’s future.

Founded in 1962, SDA Lighting and Controls has a legacy of integrity, innovation, and service excellence in the architectural lighting industry.

“Becoming a 100% employee-owned company is about preserving what makes SDA Lighting and Controls unique, while securing its future,” said Melissa Deutsch Stein, CEO.

“The ESOP aligns stewardship with those who contribute to our success, preserves our independence, and ensures decisions are guided by long-term value rather than short-term pressures. It protects the culture and principles that have defined SDA.”

The company will continue to operate under its existing leadership team, with employees gaining a direct stake in long-term performance. The ESOP fosters a culture of ownership, accountability, and collaboration.

For customers, manufacturers, and partners, the transition maintains continuity with the same team and an ongoing commitment to strong relationships and reliable service.

“Employee ownership strengthens the culture we’ve worked hard to build together,” said Jean Jacques, COO. “It reinforces our shared commitment to excellence and ensures that our clients and partners benefit from a team that is genuinely invested in their success.”
