QED Launches Scholarship for Electrical Students
10 students in the Independent Electrical Contractors Rocky Mountain program will be reimbursed for textbooks.
Denver-based Quality Electrical Distribution (QED), a Sonepar company, is accepting applications for its QED Power Forward Scholarship. QED will reimburse the cost of required books for 10 eligible fourth-year Independent Electrical Contractors Rocky Mountain (IECRM) students. The program supports students training to become electricians and reflects QED’s commitment to addressing workforce needs in a growing field.
“We believe we need to invest in the people who are the backbone of our industry. The shared passion between skilled tradespeople and the distribution side creates a strong partnership, and one cannot exist without the other,” said Scott Jansen, President of QED.
QED has maintained a longstanding relationship and presence at IECRM since the mid-1990s. After decades of sponsorship, the company sought a more direct approach by engaging students individually. This scholarship was created to help fill financial gaps for students entering the trades.
“I’m incredibly proud to help launch this scholarship program and create opportunities for students pursuing careers in the trades. Skilled trades are essential to our communities and economy, and we’re excited to support the next generation as they build meaningful, successful careers,” said Sara Cody, Marketing Director at QED.
“The support from QED is an investment in the future of the electrical industry and the success of the next generation of licensed journey workers. As these apprentices enter their final year of training, the scholarships help remove barriers. Partnerships like this demonstrate the industry’s commitment to workforce development and to building a strong, highly trained electrical workforce for the future,” said Marilyn Akers Stansbury, CEO of IECRM.
Applicants are required to respond to the following prompt: “Consider the impact skilled trades have on our communities. Why is it important for the next generation to consider a career in the trades.”
The prompt is intended to assess students’ passion for the field and how they view the importance of their work. Students can access the application and additional details at the Power Forward Scholarship page on QED’s website.
The application deadline is June 30, and recipients will be notified July 20.
