Detention Center Receives Lighting Upgrade Using Pa-Co Lighting

When upgrading the lighting in either a behavioral health facility or a penitentiary, a simple switch out from fluorescent troffers to LED is not enough. Facilities housing patients in mental health crisis or inmates in penitentiaries must also ensure that the lighting fixtures are secure enough that they cannot be pried open to conceal contraband or used in some manner to endanger someone.

Frederick County Adult Detention Center – a correctional facility in Frederick, Md., that offers alternatives to incarceration such as Pre-trial Services, Home Detention, Alternative Sentencing/Community Service, and Work Release, as well as traditional settings – was seeking a retrofit to modernize the lighting for many rooms in the facility. The lighting design and specification for the project was handled by GPI and included products from manufacturer Pa-Co Lighting, a brand of LMP. Pa-Co luminaires are designed, manufactured, and assembled in the Greater Montreal Area of Quebec, Canada.

Lighting equipment specified:

PUJAC – vandal-resistant corner LED luminaire

PRTA – security recessed luminaire for grid ceiling

PUSA – high-security surface luminaire 24″ x48″
