Sterling Vineyards: The Napa Valley Icon Transformed by Acclaim Lighting

March 19, 2024

Sterling Vineyards was founded in 1964 by Oxford graduate and successful businessman Peter Newton.

As one of only 27 bonded wineries in Napa Valley at the time, Sterling Vineyards was an early pioneer of crafting Bordeaux-inspired red wines in California and helped transform the region into the premier winemaking appellation we know today. In 1969 Sterling Vineyards bottled the first vintage-dated Merlot in California. This was also the winery’s first vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.

The winery itself is an architectural icon in Napa Valley. Modeled after the beautiful white stucco buildings on the Greek island of Mykonos, it was the first winery built with the visitor in mind and is the only winery in the world with an aerial tram.

Renovations in 2023 added Acclaim’s Unity spectrum five fixture as the primary exterior lighting. Utilizing Unity’s Amber as the daily look, and simultaneously creating dynamic visuals for holidays and special events is the perfect use of Unity’s unique five-color engine.

Fixture control is aided by the Aria Wireless DMX system, which runs the entire system without pulling or running any control wiring.
