Sonepar Releases 2025 CSR Report, Highlights Sustainability Milestones

Sonepar purchased renewable energy certificates covering 100% of electricity used in its branches since July 2025 and will continue that commitment through 2026.

Sonepar has released its 2025 global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report, highlighting measurable progress across the company’s sustainability strategy, community impact, and operational responsibility. In the U.S. market, Sonepar is reducing its environmental footprint, investing in renewable energy and efficiency, and strengthening partnerships that support a more sustainable future.

The CSR report’s release coincides with Earth Month (April) and reflects a year of continued momentum — from obtaining renewable energy coverage for its branch operations and expanding on‑site solar generation to delivering energy‑saving LED retrofits through the Bright Lights Brighter Futures™ program and deepening its partnership with the National Forest Foundation. Together, these efforts underscore the company’s commitment to turning sustainability goals into tangible, measurable action across its operations and the communities it serves.

Advancing Sustainability Across Operations

Sonepar continues to reduce the environmental footprint of its facilities through operational efficiency, on‑site renewable energy generation, and renewable energy certificates (RECs). As of July 2025, the company purchased RECs covering 100% of electricity used in its branches and is continuing that commitment for 2026.

Capital Electric’s Upper Marlboro Central Distribution Center (CDC) features 5,384 on‑site solar panels generating approximately 2.7 MWh of electricity per day. In 2025, the system produced 1.28 GWh of renewable energy, supported by advanced building controls and 100% LED lighting throughout the facility. Sonepar plans to install solar panels at its operating company Codale’s new Las Vegas CDC and is evaluating additional installations across its network.

Bright Lights Brighter Futures

Now in its fourth year, Sonepar USA’s Bright Lights Brighter Futures (BLBF) program delivers LED lighting retrofits to nonprofit and community organizations, helping improve safety, reduce energy consumption, and lower operating costs.

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, BLBF is partnering with PSG Energy Services, Acuity Brands, and Cooper Lighting Solutions to sponsor lighting retrofits at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) locations throughout the nation.

The program also delivers measurable environmental benefits. A single BLBF retrofit project completed in 2025 reduced annual energy use by 23,336 kWh, avoiding approximately 16 metric tons of CO₂ emissions per year. The energy saved is nearly the amount of energy used by four cars in a year, based on EPA greenhouse gas equivalency calculations.

These savings allow recipient organizations to redirect resources toward their core missions while reducing their environmental footprint. Sonepar and their program partners have completed 22 retrofits since the program launched, providing more than $600,000 in installation services and lighting products to organizations nationwide. The program was also recognized in 2025 by the Colam Sustainability Award, a global award distributed internally within Sonepar.

Growing Impact Through Partnerships

During its annual “Place an order, plant a tree” Earth Week campaign, Sonepar companies across the U.S. pledged to donate $1 to the National Forest Foundation (NFF) for each online order customers placed. The 2026 campaign resulted in a donation of more than $11,000 to the NFF. Sonepar has been a partner of the NFF for six years and in 2026 became an official corporate partner. The partnership has resulted in the planting of nearly 70,000 trees in America’s national forests.
