Hydrel Flame Lighting

Acuity Brands Lighting has announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted U.S. patent number 12,215,854, which covers luminaires that can implement Hydrel’s Flame Lighting TechniqueHydrel® is an established innovator and provider of outdoor architectural, aquatics and landscape lighting products. The patent was issued on February 4, 2025.

Flame is a new play on RGBW light. Featuring two color distributions from a single fixture, the lighting technique comprises a central beam with an outer beam that blends harmoniously and creates an impressive accent gradient effect. This unique optical engineering design is currently available with SAF7, SAF14, and SAF28 floodlights in RGBW Quad Tech.

Designers can also select 4000K color temperature for a play on white with a pop of color, creating a sophisticated lighting design while enhancing various architectural elements.

Three Flame lighting techniques may be selected: Narrow Flame, Wide Flame, and Lotus Flame.

Launched in May 2023, Flame lighting technique has received multiple awards, including a 2023 GOOD DESIGN® Award, 2023 Lighting Product Design of the Year from the LIT Design Awards™, 2023 Product Innovation Award from Architectural SSL Magazine, 2024 BrightStar Award, 2024 GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN GOLD CERTIFICATION, and inclusion in the 2023 IES Progress Report.
