Leviton Launches Patented Inset Door Frame for Lighting Fixtures to Reduce Maintenance and Costs

Leviton ShieldCare

Leviton®, through its Certolux® lighting brand, announced the launch of ShieldCare™, a patented, ligature-resistant inset door frame for lighting fixtures engineered for the specific needs of behavioral health environments. ShieldCare technology offers superior serviceability by allowing room-side access without disturbing sealant to reduce maintenance labor, downtime and long-term operational costs.

ShieldCare technology includes a one-piece, precision die-formed and welded sloping doorframe that seals tightly to the housing, eliminating typical ligature points found in inset-door luminaires. This design helps to drastically reduce the risk of self-harm for patients and addresses the complex safety requirements of behavioral health facilities.

“This is a tremendous leap forward for patient safety and facility efficiency,” said John Koo, Certolux North American sales manager. “ShieldCare delivers real peace of mind for both staff and patients, while also making maintenance easier and reducing costs for our customers. We’re excited to bring this level of innovation and reliability to behavioral health environments across North America.”

ShieldCare sets a new industry benchmark for serviceability. Unlike standard ligature-resistant luminaires that require cutting and removing tamper-resistant sealant for servicing, ShieldCare allows for immediate room-side access without disturbing the existing sealant. This design lowers maintenance labor, reduces downtime and ultimately cuts long-term operational costs. Its rugged build makes ShieldCare suitable for long-term performance and easy upkeep.

“With more than a century of experience, Leviton is known for delivering reliable solutions professionals depend on,” said Koo. “ShieldCare reinforces the Certolux brand’s ongoing commitment to quality and continuous improvement.”
