How Would You Light a Hotel Owned by Soccer Star Cristiano Ronaldo? Koncept Lighting Knows

When designing for a hotel owned by an international sports star, a high-energy environment is essential to the brand. While the Times Square location generates excitement in its own right, the Pestana CR7 Times Square hotel in New York City continues that vibrancy inside with the help of Koncept Lighting and interior design firm VLDG, which infused all of the building’s interiors –  including the lobby, fitness area, rooms, and public spaces – with a soccer-inspired theme as well as a nod to Cristiano Ronaldo’s cultural roots. Guest rooms are influenced by the colors and art of Portugal while dining and bar options include Portuguese cuisine, signature snacks, and drinks plus state-of-the-art digital services for watching sporting events.

Z-Bar fixtures are configured to form soccer ball shapes on the ceiling

Koncept Lighting was brought in at the start of the project to contribute to the innovative lighting design for the lobby and guest rooms. While attending the BDNY show in Manhattan several years ago, VLDG co-founder Vennie Lau noticed the Z-Bar pendant at Koncept Lighting’s booth and saw its potential for creating a unique look for the Pestana CR7 project.

Renowned for its portfolio of luxury hospitality and commercial projects, VLDG’s concept for the property was to merge Pestana Hotel Group’s culture of hospitality with the global passion for sports, most notably soccer. The Z-Bar fixtures’ ability to be configured in a variety of shapes allowed the designers to construct forms that resemble the silhouette of soccer balls. Furthermore, Z-Bar can be rotated 360 degrees, enabling the designers to provide up and downlighting in the lobby to enhance the dynamic effect.

The Mr. N table lamp

In the guest rooms, Koncept Lighting’s Mr. N table lamps offer functional and stylish illumination within a small footprint. The distinctive LED table lamp design complements a variety of interior environments with its arch shape and seamless, illuminated surface that utilizes advanced light panel technology to glow with soft, warm, omni-directional light. Intuitive controls at the bottom of the Mr. N lamp allow users to turn it on and off or dim the light with a single touch. Measuring a mere 7.5 inches high, the Mr. N lamp fits perfectly on tables, counters, and bookshelves.

The successful collaboration between Koncept Lighting and VLDG for the Pestana CR7 Times Square hotel met the developers’ vision for the project.
