As part of a $49 million renovation of a commercial office space in downtown Birmingham, a wide range of luminaires from Light Forms, a high-performance lighting manufacturer, have been selected for the upgraded building.

Located in Brindleyplace, a mixed-use canal-side development, the office is surrounded by restaurants, shops, and leisure spaces like the Sealife Centre. Wilmott Dixon Construction was appointed by CBRE Investment Management to combine two separate buildings, 8 and 10 Brindleyplace, into a single large office space. The project emphasizes modern design with a focus on smart technology, sustainability, and wellness. The updated office aims to enhance the environmental footprint while attracting future tenants.

Given the focus on sustainability, Light Forms‘ LED lighting solutions were crucial to achieving energy savings. Specified primarily by Wilmott Dixon Interiors, the lighting solutions include the compact and adaptable Lightplane 2.5, providing both direct and indirect illumination, and Cygnus Round track luminaires, among others. These solutions help create a healthier and more pleasant working environment through low UGR lighting.

Other Light Forms products used in the project include ValueDown recessed downlights, Nova Medium 62, Leo, and the Lightrod 80. Emergency lighting solutions like EM Surface, EM Recessed, and EM Exit were also specified.

Light Forms’ Managing Director, Harry Prior, expressed excitement about the project, stating: “This renovation at Brindleyplace showcases how our portfolio can meet even the most ambitious refurbishment needs, particularly when sustainability is a core focus.”

The refurbishment has resulted in 212,000 square feet of office space spread across nine floors, with the city’s largest available floorplans. The project has achieved several accreditations, including Fitwel for occupant health, EPC A rating, and BREEAM Excellent for sustainability.
