Nightingale Respond™ Headwall Luminaire Optimized for Patients and Practitioners

Nightingale™, part of Acuity Brands, has introduced its Respond™ headwall luminaire, an innovative and new ADA compliant form factor for discrete headwall lighting. Inspired by Florence Nightingale’s mission to create cleaner, brighter, and more patient-centered hospitals, the design of the Nightingale Respond headwall reflects a commitment to both function and comfort.
It features multi-mode lighting to support different user preferences, rounded end caps and expanded finish options for a sleeker look than standard hospital fixtures, and intuitive plug-and-play controls that enhance accessibility for all users. Respond also meets the recommended light levels outlined in IES RP-29, supporting compliance with best practices in healthcare lighting.

Respond combines uplight, downlight and glow face sources, which work in combination to address a range of user needs. Ambient mode provides a that’s conducive to patient rest and welcoming visitors. The glow face becomes a nightlight and can be a reassuring presence in a darkened room while providing low-level light for navigation.
Respond is surface mount, which simplifies installation and provides greater design freedom in spaces with shallow plenums or crowded patient room ceilings, where the headwall needs to be used. It is applicable for both new construction and renovation opportunities. Additionally, the SWS Sealed Wall Switch and SLVC Low Voltage Controller by SensorSwitch™ seamlessly work with the Respond Headwall luminaire. The SWS Sealed Wall Switch makes lighting control simpler for patient rooms, right out-of-the-box. With pre-configured dimming and scenes like Ambient, Exam, Night, Sky, and Reading, staff and patients can easily select the lighting that best suits their needs.
This surface-mount fixture is designed for installation in environments with congested ceilings or complex headwall configurations. It’s available in multiple finish options and three wood-effects for either a glow face or solid front panel.
“With Respond headwall, we were inspired by Florence Nightingale’s driven purpose, never accepting that things were just good enough,” said Ben Grindle, Director of Product Development, Nightingale. “We knew we could change the way a patient space is lit from the headwall, and we knew we could meet all of the IES RP recommended light levels with just one fixture – and we made it happen!”
